If you are a student eligible but not using educational benefits entitled to you under the Post-9/11 GIBill® or Montgomery GI-Bill® programs, or other federal law authorizing veterans’ education benefits for the veteran, service member, or military-connected spouse or dependent child, and is living in Alabama while enrolled at UA, please send the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and one of the following required documents to residency@ua.edu:
- On-campus housing assignment
- Lease agreement
- Utility bill
- Alabama driver’s license or state-issued ID
- Bank statement with an Alabama address
Residency at The University of Alabama is determined by the Office of the Registrar. The University of Alabama does include specific residency polices as they relate to veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors including the implementation of The Choice Act, Section 702. All students under federal VA education benefits at UA are eligible for in-state residency for tuition purposes.
To apply for in-state residency, visit the UA Registrar’s website, scroll all the way down, and select the Application for Reclassification of Residency, complete the application and submit it through the portal.
