Residency and Tuition Purposes

If you are a student eligible for but not using educational benefits entitled to you under the Post-9/11 GIBill® or Montgomery GI-Bill® programs, or other federal law authorizing veterans’ education benefits for the veteran, service member, or military-connected spouse or dependent child, and are living in Alabama while enrolled at UA, complete the VMA Residency Application.

VMA Residency Application

As part of the VMA Residency Application, you will need to upload your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and one of the following required documents:

  • On-campus housing assignment
  • Lease agreement
  • Utility bill
  • Alabama driver’s license or state-issued ID
  • Bank statement with an Alabama address

Residency Eligibility and Policy

Residency at The University of Alabama is determined by the VMA office. The University of Alabama does include specific residency polices as they relate to veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors including the implementation of The Choice Act, Section 702. All students under federal VA education benefits at UA are eligible for in-state residency for tuition purposes.
