The University of Alabama’s Office of Veteran & Military Affairs (VMA) is dedicated to supporting veterans, service members, dependents, and survivors as they transition into college life and pursue their academic goals. Through tailored services, student-centered programming, and national partnerships, VMA helps ensure military-affiliated students thrive on campus and beyond.
What We Do
VMA provides a comprehensive network of resources, including benefit counseling, G.I. Bill® certification, scholarship guidance, and access to a dedicated computer lab equipped with military I.D. card readers. Our team coordinates programs that foster a sense of belonging and assist more than 4,200 military-affiliated members of the UA community each year—including veterans, active-duty and reserve service members, spouses, and dependents.
A National Leader in Military Support
The University of Alabama has consistently been recognized as a Military Friendly® Top 10 School, excelling across categories such as student support, financial aid, graduation and career success, and cultural commitment. UA has also been named to the Military Times Best for Vets: Colleges list and honored by OnlineU as one of the most military-friendly online schools in the nation.
On-Campus Healthcare Access
VMA hosts a VA Clinic satellite location at Capitol Hall—serving UA students, faculty, and staff with VA eligibility. This on-campus resource makes it easier than ever for military-affiliated individuals to access healthcare and support, including disability claims assistance.
Financial Impact
VMA’s advocacy translates into real financial support. In Fall 2024 alone, federal GI Bill® certifications and Alabama National Guard benefits generated over $5.6 million in tuition funds paid directly to the University.
