VA Education Benefits

The University of Alabama is honored to serve those who have served our country. Our office is committed to helping students access and manage their VA education benefits with clarity and confidence.

To avoid delays in receiving your benefits, it’s important to understand key timelines, required documents and how changes to your schedule may affect processing. Please review the information below and submit all materials as early as possible.

Certification Process and Deadlines

Certifications are processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Advising worksheets

Advising worksheets will be accepted starting on the first day of registration for the next semester.

Turn advising worksheets in as soon as possible to help ensure timely reception of benefit.

Chapter 35, 31, 30, and 1606

Chapter 35, 31, 30, and 1606 certifications begin ~30 days prior to start of semester.

Chapter 33

Chapter 33 certifications begin ~30 days prior to start of semester but are completed in a two-step process.

  • Initial certification certifies credit hours, second certification requests tuition and fees.
  • Tuition and fees certifications do not begin until after the add/drop period.

Schedule Changes After Submission

Changes to your schedule after submitting an advising worksheet will delay reception of benefit if a new Advising Worksheet is not submitted after changes are made
